COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Glaucoma is one of the most common vision-threatening disorders that optometrists are likely to encounter in clinical practice. The challenge for the clinician is determining which patients are at risk, making a diagnosis of glaucoma, and then determining an appropriate management plan that minimizes further progression. This interactive presentation will review the various testing used in the diagnosis of glaucoma and what is available for management focusing on the available topical and oral medications used for treatment.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • The attendee will be familiar with statistics and challenges in establishing the diagnosis of glaucoma.
  • The attendee will be familiar with the risk factors for a person developing glaucoma.
  • The attendee will be familiar with the role of IOP in establishing the diagnosis of glaucoma.
  • The attendee will be familiar with the importance of special testing (e.g. OCT, visual fields) in the diagnosis and management of glaucoma.
  • The attendee will be familiar with the various oral medications used in the treatment of glaucoma.
  • The attendee will be familiar with the various topical ocular hypotensive agents used in the treatment of glaucoma.
