COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course evaluates new technologies in cataract surgery, primarily femtosecond laser-assisted surgery. The mechanism of operation and steps of femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery is described. The medical advantages and disadvantages of this technology are compared with well-established current techniques. Intraoperative wavefront is described along with its benefits and limitations. Finally, the practical cost of adopting these new technologies is discussed.
